Mid-Century Wall Sculpture by Pia Manu, Belgium 1960s
Prijs op aanvraag
A powerful and architecturally expressive Brutalist wall sculpture designed by Pia Manu, the Belgian artistic workshop led by Jules Dewaele, during the 1960s. Known for their raw materiality and sculptural experimentation, Pia Manu pieces occupy a unique place in postwar European design, merging art, craft, and industrial aesthetics.
This striking composition is constructed from concrete elements set within a cast‑iron frame, creating a dynamic interplay between weight, texture, and negative space. The rough, tactile surfaces and irregular forms embody the Brutalist ethos, celebrating the honesty of materials and the beauty of imperfection. The horizontal layout gives the work a strong graphic presence, making it both an artwork and an architectural statement.
Pia Manu’s creations are increasingly sought after for their bold visual language and their ability to anchor contemporary interiors with depth and character. This sculpture is a rare and compelling example of the studio’s mid‑century output; raw, poetic, and unmistakably modern.

Original Eiffel Tower Trash Can from the Champ‑de‑Mars, France 1960s
Prijs op aanvraag
A rare and culturally significant design object, this 1960s trash can originates from the public squares surrounding the Eiffel Tower, an authentic fragment of Parisian urban history. Few examples of these bins have survived, making this piece an exceptional collectible for lovers of French design, architectural heritage, and mid‑century public furniture.
Crafted in metal with a distinctive geometric brass top, the bin features an embossed depiction of the Eiffel Tower, a proud emblem of the city and a detail that immediately situates the object in its original context. The lower section is constructed from robust metal mesh, engineered for durability in high‑traffic public spaces. Its industrial character is softened by the iconic Parisian motif, creating a compelling dialogue between utility and symbolism.
These bins were once part of the everyday visual landscape of the Champ‑de‑Mars and the esplanades surrounding the Tower. Today, removed from their functional role, they stand as sculptural relics of mid‑century Paris, objects that witnessed decades of tourism, city life, and cultural change. Their presence in a contemporary interior or garden brings with it a touch of urban authenticity and a direct connection to one of the world’s most recognizable landmarks.
Perfect as a decorative accent, a conversation piece, or a sculptural object in its own right, this bin offers a rare opportunity to own a genuine artifact from the heart of Paris.

Romantic Make‑Up Mirror with Side Storage, France 1850s
Prijs op aanvraag
A charming and evocative example of mid‑19th‑century French romantic design, this adjustable make‑up mirror combines graceful craftsmanship with practical ingenuity. Created around the 1850s, it reflects the intimate rituals of daily life in the Romantic era, when personal grooming objects were designed not only for function but also for beauty and refinement.
The mirror is mounted on a delicately shaped wooden stand, its frame gently tilting to accommodate different angles—an early and elegant solution for adjustable viewing. On either side sit two small storage boxes, perfect for holding jewelry, hair accessories, or cosmetics. Their presence adds both symmetry and convenience, transforming the piece into a complete dressing companion.
The woodwork displays the soft curves, turned elements, and warm patina characteristic of French provincial craftsmanship of the period. Time has enriched the surface with depth and character, enhancing the mirror’s sense of history and intimate charm.
Originally used on a vanity or dressing table, this piece now serves beautifully as a decorative accent, a collector’s item, or a functional addition to a romantic or antique‑inspired interior. Its scale, practicality, and poetic presence make it a delightful reminder of 19th‑century domestic elegance.

Antique Rustic Wooden Trough, France, 19th Century
Prijs op aanvraag
A powerful example of rural French craftsmanship, this 19th‑century wooden trough embodies the utilitarian beauty and tactile authenticity of everyday objects shaped by hand and softened by long use. Its form is direct and functional; hewn from a solid block of wood, yet time has transformed it into a sculptural object with deep visual presence.
Troughs like this were essential tools in the agricultural life of 19th‑century France, used for food preparation, storage, or animal feeding. The hand‑carved interior, irregular edges, and tool marks speak to a world in which objects were made by necessity, not ornament, and where the maker’s hand remains visible in every plane and contour.
The surface has developed a rich, naturally weathered patina: softened corners, worn grain, and age‑earned imperfections that give the piece its unmistakable character. This depth of surface is impossible to replicate artificially. It reflects decades, if not more, of daily handling, exposure, and use, making the trough a compelling artifact of rural life.
Though born of utility, the trough now reads as a sculptural object. Its elongated form and raw texture make it a striking accent in contemporary spaces. It works beautifully as a centrepiece on a dining or console table, a display vessel for dried botanicals or sculptural objects, a wabi‑sabi element in minimalist interiors or as a grounding rustic counterpoint to modern design. Its simplicity allows it to harmonize with a wide range of aesthetics.
Antique troughs of this age and integrity are increasingly sought after for their authenticity and sculptural quality. This example, with its strong form and richly developed patina, is a particularly evocative piece; an object that carries the quiet poetry of 19th‑century provincial life into the present.

Romantic Victorian Painted Planter on Stand, United Kingdom, 19th Century
Prijs op aanvraag
A romantic 19th‑century Victorian planter from the United Kingdom, richly decorative and full of period charm. Elevated on three slender legs joined by a shaped stretcher, the piece combines elegance with the whimsical storytelling so characteristic of Victorian decorative arts.
The cylindrical planter is adorned with hand‑painted motifs—floral garlands, soft botanical detailing, and a central figurative scene that evokes the sentimental imagery beloved in the mid‑ to late‑Victorian era. The colours retain a gentle warmth, enhanced by age and careful preservation. The stand’s tripod form gives the piece a graceful verticality, while the stretcher echoes the painted decoration, creating a unified and harmonious silhouette.
Inside, a fitted metal liner allows the planter to function as intended while protecting the painted exterior. The combination of painted wood and metal reflects the Victorian fascination with ornamental yet practical household objects, designed to bring beauty into everyday domestic rituals.
Victorian interiors embraced decorative abundance, and planters such as this were prized as both functional vessels and artistic accents. They often stood in conservatories, drawing rooms, or hallways, where their painted surfaces and slender proportions added a touch of refinement and romance. This example captures that spirit perfectly—delicate, expressive, and unmistakably of its time.
With its poetic imagery and sculptural stance, the planter serves as a charming focal point in both traditional and eclectic interiors. Whether used for greenery or displayed as an objet d’art, it brings a sense of nostalgia and craftsmanship that enriches any space.

Set of 2 abstract paintings titled “Fyrhat” by the Belgian Artist Nico de Guchtenaere
Prijs op aanvraag
Two large abstract painting designed to complement each other by the Belgian Artist Nico de Guchtenaere in 1998. These paintings feature a blend of contemporary styles in earthly colors that evoke a sense of tranquility and sophistication.
The works of Nico De Guchtenaere can be seen as a meditation on the naturalness of making art, on the physical and mental activity of man. There is a continuous play of opponents in these works: between the inner and the outer world, between the visible and the concealed; between traditional painterly expressiveness and postmodern strategies.
It is a way of reflecting on the creative process by evoking the natural world, and the naturally grown, as a process of power, a process of life, death and rebirth. The organic forms are thus a metaphor for his own artistic evolution, as a meditation on the naturalness of making art, on the physical and mental activity of man.
From his interpretation of nature, Nico De Guchtenaere does not develop purely abstract art, but an abstract and very material transformation of his expressionist temperament. His iconography suggests a new meaning, it serves the constant reminder of an aesthetic consciousness.

Pair of copper Table Candlesticks by Carl Deffner, Germany ca 1910
Prijs op aanvraag
Sculptural pair of table candlesticks, crafted circa 1910 by Carl Deffner in Esslingen, Germany. This pair exemplifies the refined metalwork and progressive design ethos of the Jugendstil movement. Executed in red and yellow copper; a rare and visually arresting combination, the candlesticks reflect both the artisanal rigor of the Arts & Crafts tradition and the organic fluidity of Art Nouveau.
The Candleholders were hand-worked in red and yellow copper, with a warm, natural patina that accentuates the interplay of tones and textures. Each candlestick features a flared, perforated base that rises into four slender brass rods, topped with spherical joints supporting a horizontal copper vane. A curved copper strip arcs gracefully from base to top, adding both structural tension and lyrical movement. Though conceived as functional lighting objects, their sculptural presence and mechanical elegance suggest a dual role, as decorative objets and as expressions of early 20th-century design innovation.
Carl Deffner (active late 19th–early 20th century) was known for his precision metalwork and contributions to Jugendstil design. These candlesticks likely emerged from the fertile period around 1910, when German designers were blending the sinuous forms of Art Nouveau with the honest materials and craftsmanship championed by the Arts & Crafts movement.
The Jugendstil aesthetic, Germany’s answer to Art Nouveau, favored stylized natural forms, expressive geometry, and a rejection of industrial excess. These candlesticks embody that spirit: their biomorphic curves and exposed mechanical elements speak to a design language rooted in nature, structure, and artisanal pride.
Structurally sound and visually compelling. The copper surfaces show a rich patina with minor oxidation, enhancing their historic character. Some imperfections are visible on the underside, including surface wear and slight irregularities consistent with age and use. These do not affect stability or visual impact when displayed.

Rare Art Nouveau ceramic 3-piece asparagus set by Julius Dessler, Austria ca. 1900
Prijs op aanvraag
A museum‑level Austrian ceramic rarity with exceptional provenance, this three‑piece asparagus service by Julius Dessler, dating to around 1900, offers the kind of completeness and authenticity that is almost never encountered on the market. Marked with the impressed JBD stamp, the model number 4637, and “Austria”, it represents the refined craftsmanship and elegant table culture of the late Austro‑Hungarian Empire.
The set consists of:
- A large serving platter: 6.5 cm x 32 cm x 29 cm
- A fitted drainer insert: 7.5 cm x 23 cm x 16 cm
- A small butter or sauce dish: 7.5 cm x 13 cm x 8 cm
Together, these pieces form a sculptural and highly specialised service created for presenting asparagus—one of the most prized seasonal delicacies of Central Europe. The softly modelled contours, harmonious glazing, and balanced proportions reflect the transition from historicist Viennese ceramics to the more fluid, organic sensibilities of early Art Nouveau.
Complete three‑piece asparagus sets by Julius Dessler are virtually unobtainable today. Most surviving examples appear as single components, making the presence of all three original pieces extraordinarily rare. A comparable example is held in the collection of Museum Kurhaus Kleve, underscoring the cultural and artistic significance of this model.
The ensemble survives in remarkable antique condition. The glaze remains luminous, the modelling crisp, and the markings clear. The small butter dish shows a minor hairline, a typical age‑related flaw that does not diminish the rarity or display value of the set. The overall presentation is elegant, coherent, and highly collectible.
More than a functional service, this set is a testament to the refined dining rituals of fin‑de‑siècle Austria, where specialised tableware expressed both status and aesthetic sophistication. For collectors of European ceramics, Art Nouveau table culture, or museum‑quality decorative arts, this Julius Dessler asparagus service represents an exceptional and nearly impossible‑to‑find acquisition.

Large Copper Brew Kettle or chimney pot, France ca. 1820
Prijs op aanvraag
This impressive French copper brew kettle, dating to around 1820, is a striking survivor from the early 19th century, a period when copper vessels were essential tools in both domestic and artisanal brewing. Its tall cylindrical form, generous capacity, and beautifully aged surface speak to decades of practical use, while the craftsmanship reflects the robust metalworking traditions of rural France. The warm glow of the copper, enriched by time, oxidation, and gentle wear, gives the piece a depth and authenticity that only two centuries of history can create.
Hand‑formed from thick copper sheets, the kettle features a rolled rim, sturdy side handles, and a functional spout near the base—details that reveal its original purpose as a vessel for heating, brewing, or dispensing liquids. The metal has developed a rich patina, with subtle variations in tone and texture that highlight the hammering and shaping marks of its maker. Light traces of use remain visible, adding character without compromising the structural integrity of the piece. The brass tap, with its natural oxidation, provides a beautiful contrast to the warm copper body.
Around 1820, copper kettles like this were indispensable in French kitchens, farms, and small breweries. Copper’s excellent heat conductivity made it ideal for preparing large quantities of food, brewing beer, or heating water. Such vessels were often passed down through generations, valued for their durability and the way they improved with age. Today, they stand as evocative reminders of pre‑industrial craftsmanship and the rhythms of daily life in 19th‑century France.
While no longer used for brewing, the kettle has found a new life as a decorative and highly practical interior element. Its scale and sculptural presence make it ideal as firewood storage beside a stove or fireplace, where the warm copper tones complement both rustic and contemporary settings. It also works beautifully as a planter, umbrella stand, or statement piece in kitchens, entryways, or living spaces. The combination of historical authenticity, material richness, and functional adaptability gives it a timeless appeal.

This work captures the essence of her style: joyful, graphic, and deeply rooted in a sense of place.
The composition unfolds like a stylized tapestry of fields, trees, and village architecture, arranged in harmonious geometric blocks. This French Arts & Crafts oval mirror from around 1905 is a beautifully expressive example of early 20th‑century metalwork, created at a moment when the boundaries between Art Nouveau and the emerging Art Deco aesthetic were beginning to blur. Crafted in richly patinated copper, the frame combines hand‑hammered texture, subtle ornament, and a sculptural silhouette that reflects the artisanal ideals of the Arts & Crafts movement while anticipating the cleaner geometry that would define the decades to come.
The oval form is encased in a copper surround shaped with a rhythmic, hammered surface that catches the light in soft, irregular highlights. Modern Painting by Hans Vandekerkhove, San Galgano 2009
Prijs op aanvraag
This atmospheric work by Belgian artist Hans Vandekerkhove, painted in 2009, reflects his distinctive exploration of architecture, solitude, and the metaphysical qualities of space. San Galgano presents a long, receding corridor of arches rendered in luminous gradients of warm and cool tones, creating a powerful interplay of shadow, light, and perspective. The composition draws the viewer inward, guiding the eye toward a darkened threshold at the far end; an invitation into mystery, contemplation, and quiet tension.
Vandekerkhove’s work often balances realism with a dreamlike stillness, and this painting is no exception. The arches appear monumental yet weightless, their colors shifting from deep purples and blues to glowing golds and terracotta hues. A solitary figure stands at the center of the passage, small in scale but essential to the emotional resonance of the scene. Their presence introduces a human dimension to the otherwise architectural meditation, heightening the sense of introspection and narrative ambiguity.
Executed on canvas and signed on the reverse, the painting exemplifies Vandekerkhove’s mature style; precise, poetic, and deeply atmospheric. It carries the quiet intensity that defines his oeuvre, making it a compelling focal point in both contemporary and minimalist interiors. San Galgano is not merely a depiction of a place; it is an invitation into a state of mind, where silence, structure, and color converge into a powerful visual experience.

The mirror retains attractive age-related character, with some spotting and light silvering losses to the glass, as well as oxidation to the original metal retaining clips. These imperfections are consistent with age and contribute to its authentic antique appeal.
